It first swept through the high places where air was sparse and thin. But it was a beginning.ĭown, out of the mountains, the frost crept like a cold fungus, touching upon the lands where few men or women dwelt. There are neither beginnings nor endings to the weave of the lace of the ages. In one age, its number unknown to its own people, but one that would've been called the sixth by those who came before, a frost decorated the boughs of an evergreen tree near the northern edge of the Appalachian Mountains. Experiences become stories become fables, and all are lost, only to be repeated again in course of time. The great lace spins and years become ages as generations pass. Special thanks to LacksCreativity, BlueNine, for their idea bouncing and critiques! Their fics (That I know em for anyway) are A Cloudy Path and I Just Love Killin' respectively if you're looking for some great reads! I figured for what is implied to be a different age of the wheel, the opener would say the same thing, but still be different. The Wheel of Time set in an era called the third age. Let's just get this out of the way before you even read it.

Though with the TV Show coming out in the next few years, I can't recommend reading (or rereading) it enough! No knowledge of the Wheel of Time is necessary to enjoy this story… but it wouldn't hurt.

It's been a long time since I've tried to tackle something this grand in scale. Homages to the Wheel, LoTR, ASoIaF, Kingkiller, Dark Tower, and other stories of similar stature should abound here. But followed the mold of Alt!Power of the week really. I'm riding high, and writing… a lot.įor those of you who have been on my practically dead ff.net account, you'll find a fic there named The Sixth Age. Frankly, you'd have to be mad to attempt something like that. What better way than to cross worm with the Wheel? To write in Tolkien or Jordan or Martin esque ways. My wheelhouse used to be nothing but that sexy sexy third person limited pov. That said, most of these built their epic step by step from a first person perspective. I… really can't think of many other actively updating stories that have it (though plenty of dead and finished ones do). Daystar probably misses by a few millimeters, pending grand scale events that it hasn't reached yet. It's hard to make things epic when you've got one viewpoint. This is partially a hindrance of First Person POV. With that quintessential oomph that makes a story feel grand in scale. Not to say there aren't any epic fics, but almost none of them start with any sense of gravitas. A/N: Not quite sure why I suddenly felt like reviving this old idea, but I think it has something to do with the lack of epic in Wormfics lately.
